LAWN TIPS

Mowing

Grass
  1. In spring set your mowing height down a notch from your normal height to lift matted and dead decaying grass blades. This will also let air in to warm the soil and promote quick spring growth.
  1. Always keep the mower blade sharp.
  1. Don’t mow more than 1/3 of the grass blade at any one time.
  1. Recycle grass clippings back into the lawn. This utilizes all the nutrients the grass needs from our fertilizer.
  1. Recommended mowing height is 3 inches.

Watering

Watering
  1. A lawn needs 1-1 ½ inches of water a week for optimum health.   2 inches may be needed during 90 plus weather.
  1. When watering, water enough to get down 2-4 inches.  Longer less often watering promotes better root systems.
  1. Place pie pans or swallow bowls in the lawn while watering to determine the amount of water being applied in that amount of time. This will help you figure out how often and long you need to water.
  1. A automatic irrigation system will save you water because it can be set to water when it’s best for the water.
  1. Water in the early morning before it gets to hot.
  1. Don’t let the lawn go into night wet, this will promote disease activity.
